Mandisa's Cause of Death Revealed
Grammy-winning singer died from complications of class III obesity
Autopsy report confirms cause of death
Franklin, TN - Grammy-winning gospel singer Mandisa Hundley died of complications of class III obesity, a medical examiner confirmed Tuesday. The 47-year-old Christian singer was found dead in her Franklin home on April 18.
Mandisa, who was a contestant on the fifth season of "American Idol," had been open about her struggles with weight loss. In a 2016 interview with The Christian Post, she said, "I've always been a big girl, but I never really thought about it as a problem until I started getting older." She added, "I've tried every diet under the sun, but nothing has ever worked for me."
Mandisa's death has been a reminder of the dangers of obesity, which is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, cancer, and other chronic diseases. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1 in 3 adults in the United States is obese.
Mandisa's family and friends have asked for privacy during this difficult time. They have also set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
